Sports Programme

Athletics, Powerlifting, RaceRunning, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis & Amputee Football

The third consecutive edition of the IWAS World Games to be held in Asia landed in the United Arab Emirates in December 2011.

Whilst amputee football was held as a demonstration sport, athletics, table tennis, swimming, shooting and powerlifting – which were now regulars on the programme – were joined by a new discipline; race running.

Race running would go on to be included at World Para Athletics competitions later in the decade.

Athletes flooded to Sharjah in all sports – more than 560 of them from 39 countries competed.

In this hugely competitive event, China held their leading position in the medals table from the 2009 edition with 54 gold, 16 silver and four bronze medals.
