Athletics & Swimming

Nearly 200 athletes from more than 20 countries gathered in Olomouc for the latest edition of the IWAS World Youth Games in 2010.

Athletics and swimming were on the agenda for young athletes aspiring to compete on the global stage, many for the first time.

Poland finished on top of the medals table with 32 gold, 25 silver and eight bronze medals.

Barek Tyszkowski of Poland was handed the Athlete with Potential Award after he set a new F40 junior world record in the men’s discus. Tyszkowski also won a gold in the shot put and silver in the javelin, competing a podium sweep.

Swimmer Maria Tsakona was the female Athlete with Potential.
